It looks like the Business Council of Australia is ramping up its campaign to encourage big businesses to pay their small-business suppliers on time.
Kudos to Jennifer Westacott and the BCA for recognising the role big business plays in supporting small businesses in Australia.
I know from having spoken to and surveyed thousands of voters over many years that public sentiment towards big business has been dropping, while on the other hand Australian voters view small businesses as the backbone of our economy.
It is true that in some circles big business has a reputation of being late payers. If this negative message proliferates in the national consciousness, the big end of town risks further damage to its reputation.
Let’s see more of Australia’s largest businesses signing up to the voluntary Australian Supplier Payment Code to repair some of their reputational damage and increase public confidence in our largest companies.
